Madison Marathon Reviews

I ran the Madison Marathon the crowd support was way better than I thought it was going to be. It felt like everyone in the city was out there cheering, ringing cowbells, holding signs, and just being super into it, even in the quieter stretches where races usually get boring.

By the later miles, my legs were completely cooked, and the cheering made a huge difference. People always say crowd energy can carry you, and in this case it totally did. It really felt like Madison cared about every single runner out there. I’d definitely run it again.

The volunteers made everything, like, really easy for me. They were super helpful and friendly, and I just really appreciated it a lot. Thanks so much to everyone who helped out.

The emails had all the info I needed before race day and they showed up when expected, which was really nice. I did have one quick question and the response took a little longer than I hoped, so that was a bit frustrating. Still, overall it was helpful and made me feel mostly prepared...

The race itself was totally fine, honestly!! But the start line situation was a little chaotic?? The signs weren’t super clear, and it felt really crowded trying to figure out where I was supposed to be. The volunteers were nice though!!! And once things finally got moving, it was okay. Not a terrible experience or anything... just a bit stressful before the run even started!!

I had a decent time overall and the race itself was fun enough, but for the price, I expected a little more. What annoyed me most was how unclear some of the communication was before the event, I felt like I had to dig around for basic details. Not a bad experience, just not one I’d call great value.

I ran it this year and overall the aid stations were okay, but a few of them felt chaotic and seemed to be running low on cups. The volunteers were really nice and doing their best, which I appreciated. I just think it could’ve been organized a bit better. Weirdly, I keep remembering this one table with a single banana peel sitting right in the middle like it was part of the setup.

the parking situation was frustrating. It felt confusing to figure out where to go, and the shuttles were running late, which just made the whole experience more stressful than it needed to be.

I ended up waiting way longer than I expected at packet pickup, and it was kinda frustrating. It just didn’t feel very organized

I was pleasantly surprised by how well everything was run overall. Check-in was quick and easy, and the course signs were clear for the most part. There were just a couple of confusing spots near the finish, but nothing that really took away from the experience.

I was disappointed with the medal and shirt. They just didn’t feel worth it to me, and I expected better.

I thought this race was going to be a standard marathon, but the course definitely humbled me. A few of those hills really drained me, especially in the later miles when my legs were already cooked. I’ll admit, I probably should’ve looked into the elevation more, but I also feel like the organizers could’ve been a little more upfront about how challenging it is. It wasn’t impossible, and I can see it being great for people who enjoy a tougher course, but don’t go in expecting anything flat or easy...

I tried signing up on madisonmarathon.org and omg, the whole registration process was kind of a mess. The pages were loading super slow, some of the info was unclear, and I had to keep going back to fix things that weren’t even explained properly. Not the best first impression lol. I gave up for a while because it was just annoying.

I’m not sure if I missed something or what, but the course signs were confusing. I ended up going the wrong way twice because the directions just weren’t very clear.

Before heading home, it was really nice to grab a quick snack and some water. After the race, they had plenty of bananas, water, and little snacks set out, which hit the spot after finishing.

I was glad the timing was easy to find after the race, and my chip time looked accurate. The results page loaded fine on my phone too, which was nice. My only regret is not realizing the age group results would take a little longer to show up, since I kept checking for them. It wasn’t a huge deal, though. Overall, everything felt smooth.

I ran the Madison Marathon the scenery was probably my favorite part. There were so many lake views, nice neighborhoods, and then coming through the Capitol area in the morning just looked really pretty, like it kind of made you forget for a bit that you were still running.

Some of the hills definitely got to me, I won’t lie, but the views made them feel more worth it. The course never really felt boring, which matters a lot once the miles start adding up, because if you’re staring at nothing the whole time then… yeah, it just gets harder
